Sadly, in 1977, Sufia's second husband Kamaluddin Ahmed died. Sufia became a widow once again.
In 1982 Sufia Kamal was elected president of Rabindra Sangeet Shammelan. And six years later she became the president of Bangabandhu Parishad.
In 1989 her Ekatturer Diary was finally published. The following year Sufia denounced curfew and led the silent procession during the historic movement against autocracy. She was 79 years old.
In 1991, on the occasion of her 80th birthday, Sufia Kamal received a civic reception.
